ID for Expansion Chambers/Tuned Pipes
Hi guys, when I sold my R-1 and Grand-prix in the mid/late 60s, we were using direct drive and exhaust headers. Now that I am back into this stuff I have accumulated approx 15 various exhaust pipes and expansion chambers. Most of them have no markings at all, of course, the shapes vary, and a few of them have a "H" cut out for the exhaust gases to exit the chamber. I believe, because of my limited experience with these, that I will stick with the basic can mufflers. My question is, Is there any way I can identify what brand these chambers are, and what engines they are designed for, so I can sell them?...Ron

Hey Dave-
It looks very similar to an Adios pipe built by Savin Engineering.

Re: ID for Expansion Chambers/Tuned Pipes
I put a pair of really hot 101s onto some kind of post vintage dual C open sidewinder that has an 1-1/4 " x 48-5/8" wide rear axle. I've never bothered to actually run the thing, don't even know what kind it is. I think the pipes are Macos. The Savin Engineering headers on it are for blocks with raised exhaust ports.

Re: ID for Expansion Chambers/Tuned Pipes
OK guys, let me try this with pics... This is two pipes. I have probably 10 that I don't know about. I'll send a few more pics later. I assume they were all used with Macs since I got these with some Mac stuff. I appreciate any help.
Pipe 1: About 26" long, no markings at all, widest section 4.25", next section is 3.375" (1" exhaust outlet hole in the 3.375 section) 1.875" at the intake, 90 deg offset.
Pipe 1-1
Pipe 1-2
Pipe 1-3
Pipe 2: About 24" long, no markings, 3.375" at widest point, about 20 deg offset I'd say, 1.875" at the intake and .875" exhaust outlet on the other end.
Pipe 2-1
Pipe 2-2
Pipe 2-3
I hope the pictures work out ok. Thx.....Ron

Re: ID for Expansion Chambers/Tuned Pipes
Pipe 3 looks like a Kendick
Pipe 5 looks like a Kathy Hartman KH9. it shoudl be very light on the end cap of the pipe.
Pipe 6 is a Gary Hartman blimp pipe.

Re: ID for Expansion Chambers/Tuned Pipes
Hi Rob, Thanks for the info. No, that is not me posting the pipes on e-bay and getting the big bucks....If you guys, need one of these pipes, let me know. Maybe I should keep a few, they just take a lot of space.
Is there an article or source that I can read to understand the concepts of chamber shape/size and their operational advantages?
I have one that has stamped on the end: GEM "OT" What does the OT stand for?
Any other ideas about the other pipes. I'll get better with pics next time I post something....Thx again.
I may be coming to Barnsville in March but not sure. I won't be bringing a kart but this would be my first time at a vintage kart event. I hope it works out.
I haven't heard of much other vintage stuff going on in the greater mid-south area. This is a close as i've seen. I'd like to talk with any other guys in the Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georga interested in vintage. ...Ron
