Ted- Thank you for posting Quincy. I was reading it all afternoon, and am still not done! I was way off the mark on Konig, not realizing that the race motors were deflectors up to 1961 or 1962. It might be that Anzani actually was the first looper, having raced as early as 1957. These are outboards, of course, but since they share concepts with kart engines, we,re hopefully ok discussing them on this site.
I remember trying to figure out how to cork a piston during the '60's. At the 2009 Big One, Hank told me about a kart racer who did just that and ran away from the pack until cork started blowing out the stack, looking like snowflakes.
To me, O.F. Christner's opposed exhaust outlets were his greatest feat. I never saw a Quincy until the outboard nationals at Lake Corpus Christi in 1968.

Anzani sure goes back a long way. Several Brit fighters/scouts were Anzani powered. We had several Anzani 15 inchers in Central Florida running Micro Midgets against the Konigs. Darn fast engines. There is or was an Xterminator in one of the major museums with an Anzani all boxed up with it.

Check out the Konig on a Margay gearbox, as well as the Doall Special front Konig!
