Compression Fittings

Hey All-
I ran across a new 'old' type of compression fitting for a 3/16" plastic brake line. (fitting on the left) Can anyone point me in the right direction for replacements? These aren't the ferrules I am accustomed to seeing (fitting on the right). I don't want to replace all the fittings as it would cost a small fortune to re-do the plumbing for a 4-wheel brake set up.

The hat type ferrule on the left (with just one cone) is just like the ones that come on the MCP Master cylinders and Calipers. The barrell ferrule on the right is what you normally see for brass fittings.

Any source on those? Should I call MCP and see if they've got them? Headed to fast Eddie's place this weekend for web-site updates and chassis prep for the May event. You and the girls going to make it in May?

Ed got the Mac paint matched (both the early yellow and later yellow) for the Macs. I know he's working on color matching the early West Bend gold as well... I am really excited about the new Fedco super manifold he's working on that I demoed at Barnesville. It's a blue printed factory Mac manifold with a single adapter plate that will work with a HR/Mikuni, Mac or an HL carb...It's a VERY slick set up, kind of a one size fits all deal. The great thing is that it utilizes the factory manifold so gaskets, reeds and reed cages will be easy to find. I should have pictures up at www.fedcokarting.com by Sunday.

Dan, the new Comet catalog has both styles for .70 ea. I think the "hat" style is what you need for plastic brake lines. After seeing a couple of guys go off the track with brake failure ( line slipping out of ferrel ) I started making sure the ferrel was "square" to the line by crimping the ferre in a "dummy" fitting with a drill bit inserted into the line. That was a tip from Tom Smith if I remember right and it works well.

I didn't mention the tip about the ferrules needing to be straight. The right ferrule to use with nylon tube is Eaton Weatherhead pn601X3. Most karters use the ferrule on the right in the picture which are for use with copper tube and tend to not work worth a shit with nylon tube.
The correct Eaton Weatherhead compression nuts for nylon tube are flat at the top of the tube bore, in other words not pointed from a drill bit like the ones for copper tube.The ferrule has a flange on one end and a cone on the other end that compresses into the fitting. There are also Eaton Weatherhead compression nuts that are taller which support the tube more.

I quoted the PN for a male run branch tee (I think) in the original post reply by mistake, the ferrule PN is 601X3 and it's a sleeve according to an Eaton package I found in a box I was looking for Tillotson shutters in.

flando, just stocked up from McMaster. "standard brass compression male adapter" p/n 50915K312 $1.05ea./10+. 90degree elbow 50915K712 2.87ea. 3/16 nut 50915K122 $.26ea./10+ 3/16 sleeve (ferell) 50915K612 $2.32/10pack. These are the double cone fittings and sleeves that I thought I prefered until I read this thread! Haven't had any trouble. They don't have the single cone with the hat type though I've also gotten some of those with brake parts. Fitting is the same, you need the correct nut for the sleeve you're using.
