clutch problem

Post by Bill Legere » Mon Apr 05, 2010 1:51 pm

Hope someone can give me some direction on finding, fitting a clutch on a mc15 mcculloch. The shaft is 5/8" in dia. , and is different than my mc91.

This is an odd engine, but it is tight and runs great.

Don't remember who but someone makes an adaptor for a clutch. might be a 5/8 extension or a 3/4" extension I don't remember.

i think it was 56volks on ebay that had made them for sale.
wanted 50$ as they took a hour to make on the lathe.

Hi Bill,
I am the guy who was selling the crankshaft extensions on eBay.
I have made many different types of these but the ones that work out best are when I can have the crank that the extension is going to go on. These have to be quite precision with less than 0.003" runout at the end of the shaft or they will just vibrate too much. I can't guarantee that without having the crankshaft itself. The first pieces I made were for a 5/8 straight bore clutch with a 3/16 key mounted with the sprocket inboard. A better design is when I can machine a keyway in the crankshaft PTO and simply install a straight extension with a tapped LH thread in the end. This way the clutch can be mounted with the sprocket outboard and the torque load is on the beefy part of the crank. The extension just supports the sprocket end.

I have a crank for your engine with a machined keyway and extension that I made for someone but they ended up not wanting it after I put the time into it. It is set up for a Max Torque 5/8 straight bore clutch which you can pick up for about $35.
You can have the crank w/extension for $65 + postage but you would have to install it. It has a good Ball bearing installed. If you want to send me your crank to make an extension, the cost would actually be about the same because of the time it would take me to set up to make it.

Send me a PM if you think you want the crank.
Scott
