Ernie's Konig
This isn't the place for this, but I'm not a VKA member. Is there any recent video of Ernie Fisher's gorgeous Hovey/Konis WITH SOUND? This is mostly directed toward Jeff Campbell. Thanks. Ted

Ted,
Jeff intended to do one of his slow motion videos of the Konig on the track, but we only ran one heat, and Jeff was busy working in the pits, and could not get trackside. Jeff did manage to get the pit video, and Did a very nice job.
If you would like to see/hear--PM me, and I will be happy to send you some footage.

Re: Ernie's Konig
Ted,
Technically you are right, since the Koniq isn't a fan cooled American kart motor .... but, it is a rear engine American made kart and we have dicussed and posted photos before of karts with the early C-Open twin motors that formally generated great interest in our sport back in the very early beginnings of karting. There are several vids below from an event in Dixon, the first one was the first time it was started. It sounds good in these videos, but at Riverside when Mike Ray was driving it, he had it howling around the track ... it was running and sounding much more impressive then it shows up in these videos.

Re: Ernie's Konig
Thanks, Louie, Ernie and Jeff. I heard/saw at least one of the early vids, and, of course, I have a number of stills on my home computer that Ernie sent me some time ago. The home computer is toes-up right now, and needs to go into the shop. I am not allowed You Tube here at the lab for security reasons. Ernie, I will email you as soon as I get the home computer back from the shop. Thanks for the replies, and the videos here. Later! Ted

The last time I saw this kart in person, it was black. When did it get the red paint job?

Ted,
Here is a link to a video shot at Adams 2010. A couple of laps with the Konig at speed starts at about 3:30 into the video. Probably the best audio of the Konig yet, but very short

Thank you, Ernie! The beast sounds even better than I remember from ye olden days! I sure would like a full-length vid posted of the Konig! Thanks again. Ted

Re: Ernie's Konig
Ted,
Thanks for the kind words! It's my kart and Mike is driving it, but it was all made possible by one of vintage karting's best guys. Dave Bonbright poured his heart and soul into this machine, and one look and you know why Dave is THE ENGINE MASTER! You can see his countless hours of pure dedication and attention to detail, hand making most of the parts. To Dave and Richard Kennedy I will be forever gratefull!! Vintage karting put us all together!
Thanks, Ernie

I agree; Dave's the greatest. The polish and attention to detail on my two 610 Benders tells the story. He's told me more than once of the care he put into your Konig.`You have done a magnificent job with the Hawk! Sure want to see it in person one day! Ted
