Brake Setup

Post by Tom Winter » Fri Feb 20, 2009 3:21 pm

Anybody recommend a brake setup for a kart I am restoring (pic attached). Having difficulty with engine mounts on left side with sprocket alignment. Any reason not to go off right bearing hanger with 6in expanding brake?

Hard to judge from 1 picture but it looks like a fun kart not an old racing kart. That style mount is for a 4 cycle engine.

You can mount the brake on the right but will have to make some way to get the brake linkage to cross the frame. If you put a McCulloch on it you can still for the brake on the left side.

Clark is a copy of a Dart kart but is a "fun kart". Higher ground clearance etc....

Tom,
clark karts really like two wheeling too!!!!
you can mount the brake where you want but you'll have to add a bar that crosses the frame to make it work.
you might consider a hydrolic or mechanical disk set in the middle .
it might be easier to set up without wrecking your paint job.
usually mocking up a project before paint is a prudent step.
nice job so far, you should consider a vintage kart for your next project!!!!!
