Is there any way to determine what model this engine is?

Re: Mystery Engine
Thanks for the info. Is there a way of telling or is it just your years of experience?
Re: Mystery Engine
Is the head attached to the block or a bolt on item ?

If you get the 5 digit part number or the MC# off the bottom of the block in the back, that will tell me what saw this was, not a kart engine, sorry to let you down. The vintage saw guys may be interested in it, but it'll be a low price.
And yes; REAR is correct in their MC15 assessment.

Re: Mystery Engine
Since it is not any good for a kart, would it be any good on a mini-bike?

Re: Mystery Engine
Was this engine confirmed to be a Mac 15 saw? It has a tapered crankshaft with the early woven asbestos lined Max torque clutch. That has some serious value by itself. The block is stamped 52886A. That is the first model MC 49. It used the same block as a MC15 saw. The outer intake port was not drilled on them either. It is way more useful than just for a minibike.
