Margay gearbox....

Post by Dominic Salvato » Fri Oct 12, 2012 12:41 am

Are they any good? Seem they make more sense on enduro's then sprint karts becaause of weight. I've never run one, but own one. I'm in the learning curve and would like to open up a friendly discussion in preparation for engine selection and set up. I have one half of a slipper clutch housing.Thanx in advance.

Dominic, they work just fine, and they're indestructible. The ease of changing ratios is a good point. On the minus side: sometimes they leak, and though they're not difficult to work on, I have had to replace the oil seals on two gearboxes. They're HEAVY! They add a bit of friction compared to a good chain drive. If you're using an oil-housing for your clutch, the assembly alignment is a pain. If you PM me with your email address, I'll send you the information that Bob Lapke sent for mine several years ago. It's been invaluable. It's just a word file. Ted Johnson

Thanks Ted. I don't even know the oil level they run at or what to use in oils.

Hi Ted,
I tried sending PM to you not sure if it went. Can you send the margay info to me? I am putting together a margay dual gearbox and know very little about them.. All info will be helpful.
Thanks MIke fleagle14@embarqmail.com

Dominic, I just re-checked, and there's no indicator of a message from you. I got one from Mike Anderson, so I know it's working. Ted

Could I get instruction pertaining to the learning curve involved in sending private messages. Just kidding. Helps when one hits the submit key.
