Help with ID'ing Kart

Tom,

Off to the races, no.... off to the hospital, pretty good chance!
Pay attention to the advice offered here... we know of what we speak.
Your kart is made to run on rock hard skinny little tires pumped up to 25 psi to keep the bead set on the rim.
With those tires a wheels if you get your kart going 20mph or more and turn the steering wheel just a little too much you will be on your head before you can think "oh sh??t!"

Those tires will overpower that band styel brake that is designed for a fun kart.

OK OK Those tires and rims are going on my Grand daughters Radio Flyer wagon,,but I gotta get those originals back this week. Until then,,she'll just sit in the garage...I'm in Ohio and it's not that nice outside lol.

Tom, when it comes time to put a two cycle engine on board, find a good used Bendix brake on eBay, and replace the band brake. The way yours is set up, it's self-energizing and it may be "grabby". Ted

Ted, that's top on my list. I just replaced/updated the one that was on it and sadly,,it's not enough.It does stop it & hold it on a hill...but lol not well.
Rob,where would I locate this karting book ? I'd love to see a original picture of this . Now that it has been indentified I've been search the web for anything on it,,,& still nothing.
I really have to Thank everyone on this site for all their help...outstanding!!

Tom, Tex Smith's book on karting came out in the early seventies, and is out of print. They turn up occasionally on eBay, and the book is worth having. I actually bought mine from my local library in Florida. I had been the only person ever to check the book out, so they sold it to me!
As far as the brake goes, you could adapt one of Tolomatic's Airheart hydraulic 150 or their mechanical disc brake, but the Bendix is easy to install, works well and is period correct for the Bug. If you're going to keep the power and speed low, the current Azusa copy of the Bendix would work well. At high power, the Azusa drum and shoes are marginal. TJ
