Hi All,
Does anyone know how many degrees BTDC this engine should be set? It supposedly has 11 to 1 compression. I will try to download ad showing engine. I think it is about 26 degrees BTDC. It is a piston port induction. I stuck (melted a corner of the piston top) a piston last time out and don't want to do that again. Where can I get a standard piston and rings for it. Also, any ideas on gearing? It has 12 X 4:00 X 5 Carlisles on the rear. Lots of torque but not too much top end.
Thanks,
Scott

I remember one of the early kart mags had an article on them. Should be able to get a timing spec there. Might want to back it off a degree or two just to be safe.

Is that the Macio center mounted directly behind the seat? If so that could be more of the problem that ignition timing. Not enough cylinder cooling.

Yes, The Maico is mounted behind the seat. It was about 75 degrees the day I stuck the piston. Probably would be a good idea to have some sort of ducting? I'm not sure but it may have originally been run on Alcohol. It was put away in the early 1960's. When I got it there were twin flatback carbs instead of the 22mm Bing. I put the Bing back on.
