I don't have a kart, but I'm a vintage kart fan. No offense to anyone, but why SAE karts? Back in the day were they a better design, were they cheaper than the other karts? Were they homemade from plans available? They may be great karts but they just don't look as sleek and racy as the round tube factory made karts.

Bob,,,,

SAE karts were built by Jerry Solt and his father in Findly Ohio....in basically a 3 car garage,,Jerry was a self made engineer and decided karts were to heavy because they had to many pieces parts on them(to make them look sleek??),,,He and his father came up with the absolute simplest design that weighed app 65 -67 pounds with wheels and tires(app 75 with a Mac)...that was easily 15 to 30 pounds lighter than most of its competition.......and ...they worked.

They also made a Spyder chassis ,kinda like a chassis from an F1 car of the day,,,very rare, neat looking, but did not work as well as the square tube design

Weight is horsepower,,,period, no weight restrictions back then...I was a junior ,I weighed 65 pounds and a kart that weight 75 pounds with motor, kinda of an unfair advantage...I raced SAE for 4-5 years ..

I just drove one again at Fremont and loved it(yeah,Mike yer gonna sell another one) :D

Just and FYI..the repos work about the same as original, maybe better...

FYI,,,Dan Lotz passe away about a year ago, Mike, is his brother and still building SAE repops..

Hope that helps...
Gary

You can also contact Jerry Solt to get a new SAE made. He still makes a few, it will take a while to get it but you can have what you want. Call me if you need his contact info. Mike Anderson (317)729-2418
