Options for seals on Power Products

Post by Terry Bentley » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:02 pm

AH-58/61 just uses a wiper seal. Nothing even close available that I can find. At one time Sears still has NOS parts in limited supply. 30+ year old rubber parts dont really appeal to me. Dimensions of stock all rubber wiper seal to fit .875" bore and .669" shaft. The pto seal is not a problem. There is plenty of material to machine and fit a half dozen choices. Anyway narrowing down my options for mag seal from the two choices found. One option is to JB Weld crankcase and recut to .819" diameter for a steel cased wiper seal Timken part # 710361. The other option is to bore a pocket from bearing side to .937" diameter and use part # 17x24x7. The new seal would now fit in the space between bearing and where old seal seated. The mag side has very little material to work with. It is also machined down to 1.000" centering ignition on right above where the outer face of seal rests. The outer diameter of case is only 1.070" where the stock seal is seated. If I machine from the back moving the seal in next to bearing, crankcase wall thickness is suitable enough. But I will need to cut the width of seal down about 0.080" to work. This also means to change seal, bearing must be removed first. Are there other options here that someone else has found that works?

Hi
I just use old stock . If the seals are soft they seem to be ok.
Bobby Muha might have some .

Terry,
I have OEM seals and some used seals that are in excellent condition. I use an aftermarket seal that requires machining of the cases. Email me at louiemtb@aol.com
