SAE Fuel Tank

Post by Don Tomich » Wed Mar 07, 2012 1:02 am

Need help in mounting a half round seat back tank to the steering column support of an SAE kart.
From photos it appears the tanks are fixed by 2 bolts only through the steering column support.
Is this correct or are extra mounting points required that I can't see in photos.

Regards,
DonT

Just 2 #10 bolts is all that hold them. Use some washers to spread the load.

Thanks Rob, that's the way it looked to me but I imagined that it wouldn't take long for the mounting rim on the tank to crack.

I have two tanks on mine & added a spacer & another bolt on the bottom to stop flexing.

When mounting a single tank on an SAE they pushed the tank up between the steering hoop slightly denting the sides of the bubble on both sides & bolting thru the fange. Must have helped a little bit.
