casting rig sand muller finished

Post by david a luciani » Wed Dec 15, 2010 1:04 am

hi guys,

as some of you know i started a sand casting project a while back.
the idea was to repop parts i need in large quantities cheaply.
as with everything i do progress is very slow.
watching grass grow could be more exiciting i suppose.

anyway a major component of the casting rig is a sand muller.
it's basically a giant mix-o-matic that conditions the sand and clay or petro bond into a usable mix.
i copied one i found on the net.
see youtube video below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU7zJJ_DCTo

as i'm not about pretty mine is kinda ugly.
since it's a low buck job i had to do the welds so they aren't pretty either.

it took a bit of extra unexpected work too because my cement mixer ran clockwise.
since the copied one runs counter clock wise when i first started my machine it ran backwards.
rather than start over i went back to the net and figured out how to reverse the motor even though it wasn't reversable.
basically i switched where the power goes in and out of the windings.

then the gear bearings failed so i had to take everything apart again and replace the bearings.
the air around my shop has been pretty blue lately with my language.
but as with everything if you keep going eventually the gremlins give up and go home.
it works fine but i can't post a video as the gremilins have found a new place to bugger the works.

next i need to build an osilating riddle.

ALL THIS BECAUSE NEED MORE PARTS THAN I CAN AFFORD TO BUY.

these dang karts are fun but man the work you gotta do!!!

whine whine whine

Dave
Bravo on your progress so far. I'm sure there are a zillion things you'd like to cast. From the pictures, you may be a little cramped. This appears to be a common problem with about everybody I know. Keep up the good work, keep us posted. Once you get the process bow pat, I'm sure you'll have lots of new friends.

cramped?

nah just had to move muller inside because the global warming outside made my hands loose their feelings when i was trying to fit the parts together.
of course the basement is kinda crowded with karts all over the place.
kinda shoved stuff out of the way for now.
hopefully will be building a little shop (10x14)for the casting stuff since i don't have much construction work left right now .
am kinda looking a barn with some extra land for a track .
shhhhh don't tell the boss lady that!!!! :D
