a few details on John Mullen's "People's Choice" Winning kart at Riverside:

This was a prototype live axle Caretta, cira 1961, it was the first live axle Caretta model. This prototype kart was one of two made with 5" Hands wheels, the production kart came with magnesium Go Power wheels. There is a good chance this is the same kart used for the infamous Karting World magazine test, that graced the April 1961 cover.

The kart has a Hands magnesium sprocket and brake drum carrier.

Kart Upgrades (factory options at the time):
- Bendix brake
- Covico steering wheel

Kart Modifications from Original:
- Polished aluminum main sprocket & tank

Engine: rebuilt McCulloch MC10 with polished Van Tech intake and exhaust. The engine clutch was fabricated from a McCulloch chainsaw clutch, modified with a 9 tooth #35 chain sprocket.

Owner: John Mullen

Restored by: Mark Shepard and RM Motorsports

Previous Awards: "Best in Show" & "Art Ingels Award" at the 2009 New Castle Vintage Karting Event
