Upholstery help!

Post by ted johnson » Sun Jun 28, 2009 7:26 am

Help! I packed the upholstery for Charlie's Swoopster in foam peanuts and mailed it to him. Some of the peanuts stuck to the vinyl en route. How do we get the residue and the marks of the peanuts off? I had the same thing happen to the back seat of my Jeep years ago, but I'd forgotten it. I will have to have new pads made if we can't get the marks off. Thanks! Ted

Hi Ted!

We bought a small tube of a product from WD-40, and it's called No-Mess Pen.It says on the package.....Removes heel marks, stickers, and gum and grease from vinyl. If that works, maybe finish up with ArmorAll.

We look forward to seeing you, Charlie, and everyone else at TBO!
John

Ted,

I use CRC electronic cleaner to clean a lot of things including seats. I would test it on a small area of the seat first. I spray a little on a clean rag and then wipe the residue off.

It's available from NAPA and is called "QD Electronic Cleaner". Price is around $6 to $7.

I saw the frame after it was powder coated and it looked great; I'm looking forward to seeing the completed kart at TBO.

Thanks, John, Dick and George! We'll try these. I also thought of Goo Gone. Cheap and good for all sorts of things around the house. I will pass these on to Charlie.
I am also looking to seeing all my friends at Fremont! My Swoopster sits partially on the kitchen table, partially on a chair. Almost ready for final assembly. I can't wait to see how it runs and handles! Later. Ted

Contract furniture manufacturers used to recommend hair spray to clean vinyl. Nothing fancy. Use the cheap stuff like Aqua Net or equal. It removes ink from vinyl so perhaps it will dissolve foam peanut residue. Just a thought

Thanks, Ken. I think Charlie got the residue off using WD-40. Another use for the magic formula! TJ
