Jeff, you can try BNI/SCTA.Org but if the record is not real current more than likely it won't be listed. The other way to get info is to purchase a Rule Book, but of the 8-9 years of them I have I do not recall any records listed or classes for that matter for kart/mini bikes you are asking about. I once watched a motorhome make a pass but it was only for a "time slip"...bragging rights I suppose, no record or documentaion other than on the daily passes/times/speeds sheets that came out for each day and I did see a mini bike once but again it was time slip only and not allowed to actually go into the record books. The BNI/SCTA and I suppose the USFRA will establish a class for record runs if enough participants are paid up/registered. Dennis Mannings event that is for Motorcycles/Streamliners only may allow mini bikes but you would have to contact them. I think its sponsored by Bub Enterprises held in early September. Tom

the East Coast Timing Assoc. runs once a month in Laurinburg, N.C. at the old air base. This runway is only
used for this, its from the 40's, but still useable. Cars, bikes come in from all over the country for the
weekend of running for the records. it's not the salt flats, but they don't have to worry about the salt.
I know you can run karts there for the records, because a local has run over 100 mph with a 5 h.p. briggs
& stratton. they always have a good turnout for these weekends. if you want more infor give me a call.

A great vintage speed record project would be to recreate the bike from the McCulloch advertisements, and set records higher than those set back in the day. My understanding is that the record runs that McCulloch touted in their ads were the result of a less than stellar attempt ... with a little more work and preparation, the speed records could have been much higher.

If you wanted to go the turbine route at Bonneville perhaps a gas turbine with reduction gears would be an idea. I have installed one in a 1200 # prototype and if it weren't geared down for exhibition it is capable of over 100mph. The turbine is an old AiResearch (Garrett Corp) GTP 30-51. I found it on ebay for about $1000. It weighs under 100# including gear reduction box and is relatively compact. Power is 70hp at 54,000rpm. Runs on just about anything that will burn. I use K-1 kerosene. Pretty user friendly and reliable but REALLY loud
