Steve,

You have a good memory! Yes it is 5-ported.
I changed the shroud to red this year and ran it for a while. I think it is close to an E65 in performance, but I haven't been able to run against anybody yet.

O.k.

i'm back so i'm un-hyjacking my thread steve.
i looked up the specs.
looks like i do have a smaller engine by bore 1.875 (mine) e65 is 2.125 but the stroke is the same.
they must have different crankshafts because mine has only ball bearings and the specs indicate e65 have roller and ball bearing.
maybe the other side is an oilite bearing?

they both have a cast iron bore.
would it be insane to consider reboring it up .25 so it matches a e65?
if i can does anyone have a spare piston for it?
it's a neat looking motor and i paid very little for it .
i'm assuming it has the same layout as a regular clinton so i'll also be five porting it as per kart engine manual.

right now i haven't even tried to break it down but i need a clinton motor for Avon next year.

Dave,
It makes me happy to see guys working on Clintons!
All of the Clinton chainsaws I have disassembled have a ball bearing on the PTO and one or two needle bearings on the flywheel side. There may have been some early small ones with oilite bearings, but I have focussed on the D35 and D65 as they are the closest to the E65.
I don't know about boring it to 2.125 - could there be that much meat in the cylinder? One big problem is finding someone that can do the blind-hole boring. Ed at Fedco has said he would try it, but I have not sent anything to him yet.
Why not keep it at the current bore size and do the other mods - port work, 5 port, balance, etc. ?
I have a few pistons with rings that will fit - +.005 and maybe STD, that I will donate to the project.

i may just do that.
i was thinking along those lines but as i am a bit heavy for the motor........
probably is best not to get silly with the bore.
really will depend on the internal condition of it i guess.

Ed is a good guy but very busy.
sometimes i think he means well but his focus ain't there.
Scott Kneisel has guy that does blind bores for him .
he said the guy was reasonable to on prices.

anyway i'm starting to branch out on motors for all my dead axle stuff.
i have the old engine mod book and eventually i want at least one of each engine in the book.
so lots of new dumb questions will be coming around.
