that was a very common practice back in the day.Wasnt it common to use older and newer equipment together for the budget minded?
i have a dead axle rupp w/mc49 mounted on it.
the kart was repowered looong after it should have been retired.
the dad and son were racing live axles in the junior class.
the guy i bought it from said his kid never came close but he always had fun.
And that is the point -to have fun- so even if the kart was way outclassed the penny racers still had a blast.
it's something modern karting has completely forgotten.
NOW you're in dangerous territory.Anyways I know the rules state wet clutch OR pipe but was the concencus among vintage karters?
iTBO has that rule for good reasons i think.
just about any other vintage event doesn't.
if you're running a sidewinder and want speed you'd be running both.
newer rear chassis can be found in historical pictures running both too.
BUT at TBO the event rules specifically ban that combination.
since we're not racing it has no real effect on THE FUN we have there.
i personally prefer NOT to run a pipe on a rear engined kart even later ones.
while i'd be faster most of the engines i run on rears aren't really set up to take advantage of the pipe.
they would run better but not so well that i'd go to ruining the 'VINTAGE LOOK".
in an open motor with serious porting you almost have to run a pipe to get the engine fast.
but those mods weren't around in any big way till later so i keep these motors for the sidewinders.
to me keeping the kart era correct is half the challenge and fun.
