I would think that it may be the narrow strip of uncut grass that the mower would leave behind down the middle of each pass. :lol:

Jeff-

That got me to thinking where I got the patent infringement notion from, and I went to my library and found the reference in a Duffy Livingstone interview in the June 2000 issue of Karter News. But he'd also stated that's what he had heard, so it was probably based on hearsay.

Yamane made the first Mcculloch kart engine exhaust pipes from surplus mower handle bars.

Dean, the patent for the mower was submitted by Austin Gudmundsen designer and it was assigned to McCulloch.
Austin Gudmundsen was the Director of Research for the Paxton Engineering Division of McCulloch Motors.
