Mc 20 Head shroud
Looking for an unmolested Mc20 head shroud.
Only interested in the true 20 version that is wider than all the later models.
Does not need to be perfect but don't want one that needs a lot of repairs.
Will buy or trade...

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
There is one on Ebay right now. He claims it's for an Mc 20, an it appears to be in fair condition.

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I found that listing last night after I posted here.
BTW... it is a Mc 20 part which is different from all the rest of the super series shrouds... about a half inch wider. I have several of the 30 to 101 version but need the wide one for a 20 project. Trades are possible.

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
Steve,
Last night The Vintage Kartshop listed a bunch of shrouds and fan cover sets. There were 2 Mc20 shrouds, I bought the unmolested one , the other had a metal label which is rare but it had some damage but I see that is gone also. These things don't come up very often because the Mc20 was quickly displaced by the Mc30 after 6.1Cuin was made the standard. The Mc30 had the shorter shroud so lots of us with Mc20's (me included) cut the shroud off to look more like the Mc30.... DUMB!!! You probably should grab the one on eBay but it probably won't go cheap.

Scott,
Thanks for the reply. The seller cancelled the ebay listing after two bids were placed.... must have caved in to pressure from too many emails offering to "buy it now"
Regards,
Steve

Darn things are so rare because they are aluminum rather than the steel of the newer shrouds. They broke like tater chips. They broke so frequently that one outfit came out with a metalflake fiberglas replacement! Another reason that so many were shortened was that like the Mc10, some headers wouldn't clear the long shroud. Have you tried Vince? He has at least one of everything! TJ

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
Received the head shroud today from "Harm's overstock sale"
It is pretty nice, no damage, some minor chrome pitting but the shroud is steel and I thought all the 20 shrouds were aluminum like Ted referred to. Must be a late model. It is a 20 shroud with the extra length.
Anyone seen an Mc20 steel shroud?

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
Scott,
The all original Mc 20 I have on my wall has a steel shroud. The material is lighter guage than the steel shrouds that came on the later model 101s and the finish plating looks like something other than chrome but may just be a very poor quality of flash chrome... looks more like nickle. Still has the original sticker.

Re: Mc 20 Head shroud
I never knew they even made a steel one for the '20! Mine and Dad's were aluminum, but we only had 3 '20's total before I switched back to the stroked '10. The one I looked at at Ron C's house a couple weeks ago looked like aluminum and weighed nothing, but I didn't examine it closely. If you have pix of the prototype engine, notice they had a multi piece shroud on it. Learn something new every day! Thanks Scott and Steve! TJ
