whats a good black wrinkle paint match for the mccullochs?

Post by david a luciani » Sat Oct 03, 2009 8:49 pm

hi all,

got my media blaster back on line and have cleaned up a bunch of fan covers.
most are paint ready.
for mine i'm doing gloss black but some i want as close to stock wrinkle black as possible.
problem is matching the black wrinkle finish.
anyone have a paint they've had good results with?

thanx ahead dave

Hi Dave,
I don't really know what the originals look like but I have done a bunch with Eastwood wrinkle finish black. The finish comes out real nice as long as you get enough material on there which is hard to do without getting runs and drips but with some practice I can get a real nice job. The finish is a bit dull.

Hey, did you ever find those metal flywheel screens??

Let me know,
Scott

Has anyone tried the stuff from Moss Motors? I know some of the early MGB's used a very similar black wrinkle finish on the dashboard.

Dave,
Here is an example of the kind of finish I get with the Eastwood product. I found the best application method is 3 medium coats then in the oven at 150degrees until the wrinkle is uniform. Longer if you want it to cure also.
I think it looks real nice.
