I used the 1-60 covers for my "Mc5" Those covers are what are listed in the IPL but I am guessing that was only for the early Mc5's. By the photos, the later ones had the semi-modern covers with the plug boot hole filled. I bought my name plate from Robbin also but have not put it on the engine yet. Terry, you can borrow it if you want as long as I get it back OK.
Mine is stock but has a thin ring piston from an Mc20. Crank is 3/8" stroke.
I will be bringing mine to TBO but not running it. I am running an Mc6 instead and also an Mc9 that I just built.
Hope to see a couple Mc5's there. Maybe we should put them on the cool stuff table??

The painting went well, some grey auto primer, then Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow with a 3 hour bake at 135deg. I painted the motor mostly assembled, I slapped Gorilla Tape (super duct tape) on areas that I wanted masked off, and cut the excess tape away using an exacto knife, using the edge of the castings as a guide, real quick and easy.
I think I will put on the stock McCulloch stubby header that came on these motors, it looks pretty cool being that the MC5 is one of McCulloch's first motors.

Finished up the MC5, fired it up at TBO yesterday, and ran in some screaming hot laps!!! The motor ran perfectly. I ended up making a custom reed plate, which had no 3rd port opening (since the block was boost ported). For the reed plate I patterned the reed openings after the MC49E, which had a very large 2 petal reed, about 30% larger than the old kart-saw motor reed plates.

Nice looking motor but I never seen a Mc-5 with a starter pulley or a clutch back in the day. Try direct drive you will love it.

Dennis.......after using up all his "friends" push starting his twin MC 20's Fox kart I think starter pullys were a GREAT IDEA!!!
