Introduction

Post by Alan Lewis » Mon Jun 29, 2020 1:30 am

I'm a new member here. I own a 1966 or 67 Bug Sprint Kart with a Terry Ives re-built MAC 91-C. My kart has a few items on it that I can't identify the maker of. I'm wondering if any of the experts here can shed a little light. The first item is a muffler/expansion chamber (?) that mates to a GEM header, with a flexible metal coupling between (pictures below). I also have some non-Bug wheels on my kart and a highly polished wet clutch that I'd like to ID as well. I will post pictures of those tomorrow. A fellow vintage kart guy here in AZ is also curious. Thank you!

Hey, Alan. Fellow Arizonan here from Arizona City. McCulloch made a muffler that looked like yours for a while. Ugly, but they actually ran very well. I can't remember well enough to say that's what you have there.
Where are you in AZ? There is a small group of us who mostly run vintage. Most run Mac 91's or 820's. I run a Bonbright 610 West Bend. There are Dean and Joe Kanocz, Larry Brown, Bill Pryor, Ron and Sue Cubel, Dr. Barry Freeman and a couple more. We run the big P1 track South of Tucson twice a year. Quite a few come to join us for the November event Terry comes over from Cali, as well as Bill Rowan and Tom Wilms. John Greaves usually makes it all the way from Idaho. He also has a Bug Sprint. I sold my Sprint, but it was a good kart. Ted Johnson

Alan,

Welcome aboard.

Had that very same pipe and it was believed to be a McCulloch as Ted stated. Think someone else may have made a pipe in a similar design but can't remember the name.

As Ted also said there is a great group of guys out in Arizona and Dean Kanocz and his Wife and Father Joe put on a heck of a good meet in November which I hope to return to again this year.

Had a Livingston 'Mole' with a Wiseco prepped K77 on it and it had a pipe very similar if not the same on it, can't remember the exact configuration.

Don't know why but the name A&A seems to come to mind also.

Guys, thanks for the quick responses, and Ted, I enjoyed speaking with you earlier today. I'll continue to investigate the leads provided here on the exhaust. So here are the next "what's its"? Pictures below of the non-Bug wheels (I think) on my kart, as well as the polished aluminum wet clutch. Any thoughts on the brands or genesis of these would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Alan, the wheels are Precision brand. They were used on some Hornet karts and others. The chrome center caps look like the ones Hornet installed on their karts. It was fun talking with you today! Ted

Thank you for the kind words Bob. We sure hope to see you at Tucson this fall.

Tucson vintage kart playdays are November 6,7,8th this year.

40.00 per day, no heats just plenty of track time with your buddies. Free BBQ dinner Saturday evening, kart show before dinner and raffle and show awards after dinner.

Charlie the track manager turns on the Musco lighting system on Saturday evening for us to run under the lights. The last two years a local drone club has filmed us running under lights.

Camping is permitted at the track. There is also a new hotel closer to Musselman Circuit track.

More details to follow.

Dean
