REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Hello All,
I will be attending The Big One for the first time and have a few questions regarding the guidelines, etc.
-Are the guidelines listed somewhere or is there a flyer posted that will explain the requirements? I see a flyer for 2017 but not 2018. Mainly concerned with making sure my Kart will meet the safety requirements.
-The 2017 Flyer lists the Classes. I'm running a Mac 49 on a 1964 Rupp Kart so I'll assume the "Classics" class is where I'd fit?
Thank you for any feedback and I apologize if this information is listed somewhere and I just couldn't find it.
Chris

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Hi Chris
We usually run 3 sessions. Kids / dead axle, single, twin. They run about 10-15 minutes each depending on how many karts are on the track and how many karts are waiting to get on the track.
Look your kart over well. Make sure everything is safety wired & cotter keyed. Then when you get to the track ask a neighbor to go over your kart while you go over his.
Skinny hard tires only.
See you soon!

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Chris,
The 2018 Guidelines are the same as they have always been. We have a real simple approach, we run old karts the way they ran them from the beginnings of karting up to 1972. We basically run period correct equipment on skinny hard tires, its that easy.
R.E.A.R is not a racing squad and TBO is not a racing event like some others. We run controlled hot lap sessions, we have a kart show, we offer free lunch and drinks all weekend long and we have a huge swap meet and.....we have FUN !
If you have a 64 Rupp with a Mc 49 on skinny tires you will fit right in.
Hope to see you in a few days, stop by and introduce yourself.

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Does your event require two cycle engines only? Or could I run a newer 4 cycle? I have both a BSP Clone and a West Bend 580 that I can use. Thanks for any info.

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
TBO is for REAR engine karts with period correct 2 cycle engines ONLY. Your 580 Bender would be most welcome at Fremont. Come next year, bring the vintage kart with the 580 and skinny, hard tires on vintage wheels and have a bell with similar karts! Ted

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Thanks Ted!! The West Bend is a Chrysler 58041 model. Will that work?

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Most certainly. The 580 was made by West Bend, then Chrysler bought the 2 cycle engine line from West Bend in around '65. The 580 was most recently made by US Motor Power. Your Chrysler is just as good as an original West Bend. The only real differences are the identification tag, and in some cases, the recoil starter. The 580 is tough and reliable, as well as easy to maintain and to repair. Run her on the recommended oil mixture and have a ball!
Rob Voska and Bob Kurkowski, who run the TBO event together, are two of vintage karting's finest guys. Both know the 580, and are a blast to be around. Ted

Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
I have another question: What parts of the kart need to be safety wired to run The Big One? Thanks-Timothy
Re: REAR Guidelines and TBO Info
Tim,
All steering related components, brake system and throttle fasteners are a must then use common sense and go from there.
