This kart is a 1962 Fox with a 9.8ci West Bend 820. It also has 5" Lemans wheels front and rear.

Dick, were the 5" front Lemans wheels off a minibike or did Fox sell some karts with them?

Rob,
The 5 inch front wheels were off of mini-bikes and only a few were made. The tool used to make them was for the rear outside wheel half with a different insert. I made two sets a few years back; not cheap but work great.

Mike,
Fox sold blue, red and green candy apple karts. The Fox green was darker than this kart. My Fox enduro is/was painted a lime green that was popular in the mid 60's. Won a lot of races with that color. My kids dominated Brodhead with the same color karts.

Hope to see everyone this fall; we're leaving for our Wisconsin home this coming week.

The painted tank...

Yeah, that looks way better than it did before the paint. Thanks for the kind words, Rob! The hammered finish sure hides a multitude of sins! It matches the cast sections of the turbine wheels. I painted that stuff almost 15 years ago, and they've been wrapped in towels in a filing cabinet in my basement this whole time.

Patience? Uh... Sure! We'll go with that. Life gets in the way, right? It certainly couldn't be procrastination!

I've made occasional bursts of progress over the years, but it was not till I attended the VKA event in Oreville, PA this past September that a real fire got lit. I saw a couple karts like my own for the first time. I not only was reminded of what I have, but also of what I've been missing. I am not sure if I'll be able to make the trip to TBO in Ohio this summer, but it's definitely on my radar. We'll see how the summer pans out.

Almost ready. The gearbox-to-engine mount is held on by barely a thread or two of engagement on the gearbox side, because I've had to add spacers to create clearance for the clutch assembly. I've commisioned a fellow karter to machine some sleeve nuts that will combine the functions of the nuts and steel bushings that comprise the original mounting hardware and that will provide ample thread engagement.

The maiden voyage took place at Nicholson Speedway last weekend. So. Much. Fun.
