Starter Battery
My old starter battery just shot craps. I didn't build the starter but someone told me it has a 6-volt Ford motor. The existing battery is a giant 875 cold-cranking amps. (over 11" long). Do I need to replace it with that same size or would a smaller & lighter battery work? Any specific recommendations?
Re: Starter Battery
You can use a smaller lawn & garden battery (bigger than a motorcycle battery) but don't think your going to turn an engine over forever like you do with a big battery. I would look into the new gel cell batteries.
Re: Starter Battery
Got over to the PRI [Performance Racing Industry] trade show in Indianapolis Indiana yesterday and found a battery company named 'Braille'. They have loads of trick batteries in all sizes, compositions and weights and there even made in the USA.

Re: Starter Battery
I would use anything but a lawnmower battery if possible. Hard to get them to last more than 2 years and like was mentioned, they don't have much reserve power. I think they're made light and its easy to warp the plates when charging.
