New Castle Robopong 200 on SpeedTV tonight at 6pm ....

Post by Jeff Campbell » Sat Dec 22, 2007 9:44 am

...and again on Dec 29. The New Castle event that included a C-Open Vintage Karting demonstration, is going to be on SpeedTV tonight at 6pm. I haven't been able to tell if any footage of the vintage karts is included or not. It aired at least once before on Dec 2nd (I missed it), comments I read on the coverage were very good.

"Nearly one hundred teams made up of two-four drivers compete for 70 slots in a 200-mile race at New Castle, Indiana. Spectators converged to the facility last year to watch their favorite IRL, NASCAR, and USAC drivers compete among some of the best in karting."

Thanks for the heads up Jeff.
I recorded the first airing earlier this month and there was no mention or footage that I saw of the vintage karts except a short interview with Lake Speed wearing a Vintage Kart Olympics ball cap.
That doesn't mean they will air the same exact program It's great to see an hour of kart racing on the tube. At least DVR it.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Hi Jeff-
No coverage of vintage karts other than the 15 second cameo by Lake Speed (as George Mentioned above). On the bright side, there was coverage of karting event. (Which is always good in my mind) It is a shame that karting can't get the same level of coverage as it gets overseas. It seems like you can't shake a stick on YouTube without picking up a kart race or 20 from the UK.

Somebody needs to persuade the Dismore's to host a vintage kart meet at Newcastle (aside from the monster karts), that looks like a really nice facility. Jeff, what were your impressions of the track?

Nope, they didn't include the vintage racing. I think because Mazada, Robopong, and Bridgestone sponsered the main 200 lap modern kart event, and our event had different sponsers (Burris), that they could only air the main event along with all the Mazda/Robopong/Bridgestone ads.

It was a very well done hour long show.

As for the track, it was a great facility (much more than just a track). The track itself was well suited to modern karts and the C-Open sidewinders we ran there. IMO, with 1000' plus straights, it is too big and too wide a track for the majority of vintage karts, it just isn't the track that the vintage karts were designed to run on.

I saw it when it aired the first time, the coverage was very good .
We took the Simplex to a local track up here and it is like that track in the fact that it is so much larger ( intended for modern type karts) .
