Theres alot of truth about a carb acting up ..weather it be a tilly ,mikuni,mcuulloch .there at apt to give you trouble BUT only when your at the track ..always seem to run perfect in the driveway ..outa boxes of carbs i have one bdc one flatback and one tilly i trust ..so every motor i build i use witchever one ..then start in on the one that goes to it ..id say 89% of the time i can get them but i have few carbs that are just junk ..read what you can and just start messin with one ..i have had carbs apart 5 ,6 times and they did something different everytime ..when you can put both carb nuts and lock washers on any motor in under 30 seconds each without even looking at them you will be pretty good by then ...

Hi: Just saw your post about the Mac carb. gasket kits, have you had any luck finding any? I have a vintage SAE kart with twin Mc9's, modified and on alky. They havn't been run for some time but the engines are clean and lubed inside and have good compression. The carbs though [2 on each eng.] were all gummed up and the gaskets and diaphragms all hard and torn. I've got them all cleaned up but can't find any gasket kits to put back in. The walbro kits that some say will work all look different than what I have, these are the small bore no duck bill carbs. Any info.would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For the small flatbacks, Sugar Creek Supply is making new kits. Don't know if it's cool to post links, but if you google it, you'll find them. Bryce at Cheap Chainsaw Parts on ebay has them, too.

This brings up a question I have. I have 3 of them in carbs that ran great, but now refuse to pump fuel. In every case I have eliminated every variable I can think of. Tank vent, impulse passages, eveything clean in the carb, fuel filter, etc. It's down to the diaphram sheet. I tested one with the pump housing full and the line. I pulled the line off and turned the engine over and the check valve wouldn't close. It spit fuel back out of the line instead of pumping it to the metering chamber. I got wise to it when the tank was getting pressurized. Only thing I have left to try is not tightening the 4 bolts so much. Maybe I'm warping the plate somehow with too much torque on the screws?

Any advice, I'm all ears.

BTW, I love them when they run and I have the dues paid. I can remove and strip a BDC14 in under a minute, lol!
