Which spark plug for Mc101MC / gas?

Post by philrock » Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:33 pm

I recently switched my dual Mc101MC engines from alky to gas. I had Walbro BDC24 carbs for alky, and now I'm running Mikuni BM34 carbs with gas. It just occurred to me that maybe the best plug for gas is not the same as the best one for alky. What plug should I use for gas?

Phil, a lot of us like the NGK plugs because you can split heat ranges better that most other brands. I'm using NGK B7HS plugs in my gas West Bend 610's, and in Macs with 1/2" reach plugs. It's a good starting point. I'm using the B7S plug in my short reach Macs. For NGK plugs, the higher the number, the colder the plug. A good NGK alky plug might be in the B9S or B9HS range. The "H" after the heat range number denotes a long reach plug. TJ
