GoKarb/Scott Fuel Injection

Howdy,

Does anyone know anything about the Fuel Injection unit that was marketed under the GoKarb, Scott or Go Kart name in 1959 or 1960? I checked the Scott Fuel Injection history and they apparently made this item and then either sold or licensed it.
I have a unit I would like to fit to my Mc10 engine. I have seen vintage ads for them but no
review. At least two issues: the throttle bore is small. Much smaller than the Go Power manifold I have on the Mc10. The other thing is it looks too simple to work. No way to really control the fuel once it is turned on. I was thinking maybe use an axle fuel pump so that there would be some relation to fuel delivery and kart speed. This one seems to work on using the engine pulse to pressurize the fuel tank. The directions say it can also be used by pressurizing the tank or gravity. Anyone have experience with FI on a kart or one of these go karb devices?

Scott, there were others available besides the Go Karb, though I can't remember the names. A couple guys in our area of East Central Florida (Cape Canaveral) bought them, but they never seemed to run as well as a stock Mac or Tilly carb. True FI needs a real, honest high pressure pump, and a way to regulate the delivery based on demand. This thing was nothing but a mixing valve. You can tell how well they didn't work based on how many you didn't see on the hot dogs' karts! Neat piece of karting history, though.

hi scott ,,my thoughts are there way to small for a mcculloch i put one on a 580 west bend 3 port there nothin to great it ran but thats about it... you spend more time messin with the needle and pumping the hand pump to keep presure in the fuel tank .i was gonna try an axle pump but wasnt impressed enough to mess with it i have one brand new in box with all paper work if you want any of it copied be happy to ..i put the other one on a clinton and put it on the shelf too look at ..

It's in really nice condition! Might run pretty well on an A400 or PP47. How about two of 'em on the Mac? That'd keep you busy tuning!

Actually, I have a PP47 on the very first kart I restored. Perhaps I'll give the fuel injector a try on that one.

Unless there is more to it than is visible in the pictures the device cannot work. It appears that the thing is nothing more than a throttle body with a metering valve to determine the rate of flow. If it is fed by a gravity feed or a pressurized tank it will deliver fuel continuously throughout the cycle of the engine even when the air flow is halted by the reeds closing. You might get the engine to run but it will not perform well at all. Same problem if supplied by a pump unless the ouput pressure of the pump is phased to provide pressure only when there is a drop in pressure in the throttle body as the piston moves up the bore.
Long ago Bosch made a mechanical fuel injection system that worked that way but all modern FI systems are based on continuous high fuel pressure and timed opening of the fuel delivery passage to coincide with the movement of air through the intake tract.
Hang it on the wall as a novelty... that is all it is good for.
On second thought, you could use it to spray bug killer around the yard... just hook up a line from a bottle of pesticide to the fuel inlet and mount the throttle body on the end of your leaf blower. Fire up the blower and fine tune the degree of "fog" desired

Wear a gas mask!

Hmmm....... I wonder if it could be converted to a space heater or perhaps used to heat a small boiler to power an experimental kart motor... ( 2 cycle steam of course ).

Hi everyone!
I too am the proud owner of 2 new GoKarb's! Never had the guts to actuall see if they work or not!
Steve,I looked at the directions and in the "set up" part they explain that there's another check valve in the carb body (in addition to the one that's in the fuel line) but it still would appear to me that this set up would be nothing more then a "controlled fuel leak"!
Matter of fact that's exactally what the tech officals called the Prediator variable venturi carb that I had on my big block outlaw dirt late model......A controlled fuel leak! Then they saw the NOS plate below it! HA! Those were the days!!!

holy thats funny carl ..boy i almost forgot about the preditor carbs ..wernt they nice ...!!! a big ol aluminum box that held half quart of gas and kinda just dumped gas in the motor ..i tried running one on the street lol no good... its pretty bad when i took of hilborn injectors cuz i hated priming my ride everytime i wanted to go somewheres put the preditor on it and 3 days later slapped the hilborn back on ..gas was 119 a gallon at that time and i thought that was killing me ..
