Re: Mac 5 clone
Bob, there are a number of real Mc5's out there. The real engine has all the ports drilled from the factory. Terry Ives just called me a couple hours ago to tell me he'd finished fitting the new piston to mine. It goes on the '60 Bug Wasp I'm building in tribute to my Pop's first live axle kart. Jeff Campbell has a really nice one on his kart as well.

Re: Mac 5 clone
Not a lot, Bob, but they do show their faces from time to time. My buddy just sent me one of the engines marked Mc5&6, and it has an Mc5 crank in it. It, however has the Mc6 piston. Can't imagine why anyone would go back and put an Mc5 crank in there! I still may build it up for him, just as a toy. If a guy wants to build himself an Mc5 from pieces, the hardest part is to get both inner and outer shrouds. Ya boost the power by adding an Mc6 head and thin head gasket, as well as the thin ring piston.

Re: Mac 5 clone
I have 2 of them, one bone stock and one slightly modified with an Mc6 crank and Vantech manifold.
The stocker will never be run but I am hoping to get the modified out on the track this season just to see how it compares to my Mc6.
I tried to attach a photo but the board quota is full and won't let me. I'll put it on the Vintage kart site next door!!

Steve, the very first Mc5 shrouds do not look like an Mc6 shroud without the plug cover notch. They had a different shaped exterior. The raised portion that reaches up to the plug cover on the Mc6 and late Mc5 is deeper on the early '5 and only goes part way up the shroud. You DO see some of them on saws, but not as many as the second generation of '5 shrouds.
