580 5 port pistons
Hey, REAR lovers. I need two GOOD or NOS West Bend 580 5 port pistons so I can assemble Charlie Craibe's two engines. We need the rings, too. Thank you Ted Johnson
Re: 580 5 port pistons
Can't you modify the 3 port dome piston tops?

Re: 580 5 port pistons
Hey, Rob. I can, but with the lower compression, they won't run as good. I will probably be forced to do just that. No way am I going to TIG the domes and grind them down! I don't have a mill, and my hands aren't as steady as they used to be. I may mount them down to a board and press them against a sanding drum in the drill press for control. Do the 5 port pistons use thinner rings? Thanks. Ted

Re: 580 5 port pistons
Well, gang, one of our intrepid vintage karters has found us two 5 port Wiseco pistons. The issue now becomes, getting the .024 rings for the 2.062 bore. Any thoughts? I COULD cut about .195 off the ends of Mc6 or thin Mc10 rings, but the wall tension would be very high, and I'm not sure they'd stay round, squeezed down that much. Does anybody have thoughts? I called Wiseco, but they no longer have any .024 rings. Thanks! Ted

Ted,
I had some rings made a while back by Otto Gas Engine Works. Contact there was Dave Reed. 410-398-7340.
They have a new website since I last talked to Dave. ringspacers.com
Maybe he can help if all else fails.

Thanks, Bud. Dave didn't have anything thinner than .093. I may be forced to use standard 580 pistons. That's be a disaster, since I already sent the check for the Wiseco pistons. Say Hi to Joel for me! Ted

Ted,
Try Dave Luciani for the rings.

Thank you, Dick. Bob Alexander says he has rings that measure 2.079 squeezed closed. I will wait for him to give me a price. This'll keep me out of the pool hall for a few days! Ted

Hey, Rob! Not too many pool halls in Arizona City nor Casa Grande. Ask Bob. Pretty quiet here! TJ
