WTB Unimount Steel Side Mount for McCulloch

Post by Chris Taylor » Tue Jun 05, 2018 1:43 pm

Hello All,
I'm searching for a Steel Side Mount that goes with the Rupp Unimount that fits a McCulloch engine. Based on my set up the aluminum side mounts will not work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Was there a special steel mount for the unimount or will any flat steel plate for a Mac work?

The steel side mounting plates are just a flat piece of steel, like a GEM mount without the chainguard.

From what I'm told, the original side mount for the unimount was 1/4 inch flat steel with the McCulloch bolt pattern. I spoke with a person in New Castle that has them for the West Bend but not McCulloch.
My issue is I'm running an inboard rev grip clutch and there is not enough clearance for the Gem Aluminum mounts.
Thanks for any assistance.

Chris, I can CAD design one for you and you can get it water jet cut, or I can send the DXF file to my water jet guys in Albuquerque. They can cut it for you, you pay them over the phone and they ship the finished product to you. They're the best in the West, but they are incredibly busy, so they are not fast. They are a major supplier to Sandia National Labs, so you know they are good. You would need to tell me the distance you need from the center of the chain adjustment slots to the center of the crankshaft, and I can easily model one for you. If you PM me, I will get 'er done. The two REAR guys can vouch for my skills. Ted Johnson

Chris,

Get you self a angle grinder with a cut-off disc and have at it. A steel plate should give you the clearance you need.

If you ever go with a GEM aluminum side plate make sure you get a real GEM plate. Some of the re-pops are made from junk material and have been known to break in half and destroy your engine as it bounces down the track.
