Need a set of 5" nylite wheels (fronts and rears) for a Bug Sprint restoration. Thanks.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
Jeff,
Kelite wheels are currently being manufactured in NZ by Sheppards Wheels in 4" and 5" sizes. They are inexpensive but require a little machining to match standard kart axle configuration.
Kelites are almost identical to Nylites, they are a little whiter than the old Nylites.
Have done two meetings with mine now and no problems.
Regards
DonT

Don,
Did you have any problems getting the tires on the Kelite wheels? I have a set and I can barely get the tire started on the rim.... not even close to the bead area.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
Steve,
Had exactly the same problem, machined about 1-1.5mm off the inside of the rim halves and they fit great now, was a little dubious but seems to be adequate thickness there.
Maybe some batches of tyres have slightly different inside diameters as I have seen cast alloy wheels with the same problem.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
Well I've sent emails to the Kelite manufacturer in New Zealand with no response. Not sure what to do to get a set for a reasonable price at this point.
Does anyone have any experience with the Azusalite black plastic wheels? I was thinking of trying a set on the Sprint with a single MC92 engine but I don't want them flying off while I'm speeding through a turn....

Make sure bots are very very tight and use Nyloc's or Loctite..... they flex & pinch the tubes.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
How about a small chamfer on the edges that join? Or heavy tape to cover the joint - like gaffers tape?
The bolts on my 5" Azusa wheels look a little cheap. Since there are onIy three of them, I would consider high grade bolts with fine threads.
Just my 2 cents. no refunds.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
Squeeze them to tight & they mushroom. Face it, they are fun kart wheels not racing wheels.

Re: Wanted Nylite wheels
We put a set of the Azusa black wheels on the rear of Joel's kart 2 or 3 years ago. Took it to Fremont on a Sat. practice day and he spun the insert out of the right rear wheel on his 2nd lap. He then stole the Tri-stars off of the rear of my kart so we (he) didn't have to sit on the fence the rest of the day.
