Are these old Palmini brakes still a thing? I just ran across one in my boxes of old kart parts if anyone is looking for one. Cap is missing, not all corroded but will need rebuild. May be able to deliver to Davis. Photos available, e-mail Karlznet@aol.com ~Karl

Karl,

Folks who are doing period correct restorations of historical karts could quite possibly be interested in what you have to offer. You never know, you might have something that is not complete but someone else may need a small part to make a complete assembly so offer it up.

The brake actually worked better than could be expected. I had a '59 dead axle Bug, and no money to buy a new Wasp. I added Reed engineering live axle kit, a nice engine mount and Reed sissy plates and pads. I used a new Palmini brake we had in stock. It made a very light kart. I got a very early production Mc6 and installed it. Of course, we only used direct drive back then, but with the Palmini disc and the engine braking, the setup worked well. The brake was a bit "grabby", but it was head and shoulders above anything else Bug had at that time.
A funny quickie: I had the brake off the kart, and I was holding it in my hand to bleed it. A jet of brake fluid squirted out and hit me square in the eye. Sonofab1tch! That hurt! I had to wear an eye [patch for a couple of weeks. They gave me a nifty black patch. All the girls at Melbourne High thought I looked cool! 8-) First, last and only time I was ever thought to be "cool" in high school! Ted
