Rathman Xterminator Values?

Post by Bill Hixson » Tue Sep 06, 2011 3:08 am

I've had this kart since I was a kid and now I'm considering selling it. Overall good shape but has a different steering wheel and an updated mechanical disc brake. The nerf bars on the side are missing and the bumpers don't appear to be original. It has a repair made to the front axle area due to a minor crash sometime in its life. No engines. I'm trying to get an idea what the range of values would be for a kart like this before I decide whether or not to sell. Thanks!

Hi Bill,
Wanted to let you know your photo would not download. Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem. I'm usually able to open any picture files from this site.

price depends on alot.
one fuzzy pix won't do.

get really clear pix side bottom back front closeups the more you get the better we can assess it.
post them on something like photobucket.com and post the link.

big question is the original gas tank there.
that's a big game changer.

i'll say this you have a nice roller but it isn't a gold mine.
we are in a dead economy and there isn't much money around.
the exterminators are extremely expensive to restore and lately seem like a fairly common kart to find.
Ron Cubel restores them perfectly and even at his giant price doesn't make very much money on them.

Bill, from the pic, the side pans look bent upward near the front axle. Repairs are possible by removing the rivets and doing the metalwork. It's a VERY nasty process, and only Ron Cubel does it right. The amount of hand work he does is amazing. He has the jig for re-riveting the kart back together, and his son-in-law bucks the rivets while Ron heads them. I used to have the parts de-anodized for him prior to metalwork and welding. Once any welding is done on the aluminum in a visible place,, re-anodizing just looks awful, even though the welding rod alloys are correct (Ron had the original alloy analyzed). Ron's karts are powder coated to end up with a nice even finish. Anyhow, Xterminator resto is a VERY long and difficult process. As your kart is, and without the $1000 gas tank (I ain't kidding!), it won't bring the big bucks.

Hello Bill,

Wow! What a kart! It may be an Xterminator, I have always wanted one, but it leaves alot to be desired. Considering all Ted described, the missing or incorrect parts, the long resto process... I will offer $150 and you deliver it to me in sunny Florida. You could use a vacation. 8-)

I would end up hanging the kart on the wall for about ten years while I hunt for all the missing parts before I begin restoring it. Hanging on the wall, it will make for a good conversation piece. Maybe you should just hang it up and begin the hunt... or sell it to me cheap and come for a visit...

Kind Regards, Joe

Hey Steve, If you have an MC 6 crank in that box of cranks, I'd be interested.
