Need MC-10 head gaskets

Post by Terry Sullivan » Fri Sep 10, 2010 1:35 pm

My Son is tired of the E65 and wants a Mac now.

I'll need at least 3 MC-10 head gaskets. If nobody has them, I'm going to have some made.

Hey, Terry. I had to have a special thickness gasket made for my 101. Terry Ives made it for me. (916)201-7707. If worst comes to worst, I can make a Pro/Engineer file for you and you can get them water jet cut. You'd need to send me an old gasket so I can get the numbers. Ron Cubel might have some, but you'd have to wait until next week for him to get back home. Ted

Ted,

I think I asked Ron a while back and he didn't have any to spare.
I may try a local waterjet guy for a prototype for the sake of convenience.
If he doesn't do a good job, I'll be ringing your phone!

Terry,

Try www.kartsandparts.ca/ & then scroll to McCulloch vintage kart engines and parts. I've bought gaskets from them for my Mc6 and 49 projects and they were OK.

Terry, any decent water jet shop should be able to cut the gaskets. What they want is a good .DXF CAD file to work from. TJ

Dick,

Thanks, but unfortunately the MC-10 gaskets from www.kartsandparts.ca are not correct. He made the piston cut-out the same size as MC-6 which will not allow the MC-10 head to seal correctly. The 'sealing ridge' on the MC-10 head is different.

hi Terry,
i believe we talked at tbo.
at least i think so i bought some alcohol from you.

anyway what sealing ridge are you refering to?
i know some mccullochs have a raised section on the head that can be a real pain.
on the mc10's heads i have i don't recall that feature but maybe i'm mistaken or there's two kinds of head.
if there's two kinds which may be the case i have a few extra without the ridge if you need one.

the reason i'm sure those gaskets work is because Scott just built a mc10 overbore using those same gaskets.
the mc10 is .070 over and ported it's a real screamer.
he's also building 5 mc10 clones right now and using the same gaskets.

second possibility is that the wrong gaskets were sent to you.
on all this i could be wrong but if it helps you get that motor going i'll risk being wrong.

Dave,

If you look at a 51224 head, you should see a raised sealing ridge that is approximately 2.235" diameter.
The head gasket for an MC-10 has a cut-out for the piston/cylinder that is no more tha 2.160" diameter.
That gives the head a .0375 "crush ring" all around the gasket.

The MC-6 head and gasket are different in both dimensions.
