WTB Mac 40 manifold

Post by Phil Parkinson » Sat May 29, 2010 11:35 pm

I need a Mac 40 manifold to complete the parts collection for restoring/ rebuilding this motor. Also if someone can tell me what parts were originally painted on this motor would be a help as some photos I have seen show head and block painted but mine shows no signs of either ever being painted.
Thanks
Phil

According to Mc Bob, the block and head on the Mc40 were painted.

Check out his chart. It is pretty accurate.

Don't know about the manifold but I think it is the same as the Mc70 manifold if that helps.
Good luck,
Scott

Getting old is lousy. I had a Mc40, and don't think the block and head were painted, but I'm not certain. The Mac ads from '63 don't show paint on the block, though the pictures aren't that great. I don't believe the crankcase cover/point plate were painted either. I think that only the flywheel shroud was yellow. The intake manifold was interchangable with the Mc70. Ted

So now it seems that I have an option with manifolds, so if anyone has either a Mac 40 or 70 manifold they would like to sell , Please contact me.
As regards the paint or no paint on the engine , attached is a picture of my kart on the first day it ran in Australia, about June '63, everything was new as supplied. Pitty its Black and white but I think it may have been painted as the fins on the head look 'flat' and you would expect some sparkle from fresh alloy..
Note the safety gear !!!.
I will have to try and get the info from the original owner , lets hope he remembers

The V neck sweater was a nice touch.

Hey Rob , it was June which is winter 'down under', I think it was his old school jumper as he was only 17 and then you could not race in Aust. till you turned 18.
I just wish the kart was as pictured when I got it rather than the bare chassis I'm starting with! :)

Well, Rats! That picture looks like the block and head are very much painted! Of course you know Mac; it's possible the earlier engines were painted and later ones weren't painted. Or maybe I'm just covering for a bad memory. I didn't run the '40 that long as I had a stroked '10 that was just as fast as the modified '40, so I interchanged. Then, along came girls and a '60 Sport Fury.... TJ
