Re: Wanted 1959 or 1960 rupp wide loop A Bone parts
Hi, Ryan, and Welcome to the wonderful vintage thing! I'm NOT a Dart guy, so I could be way off here. I don't think the A Bone came along until about '62. If it's really an A Bone, you may get upholstery and other pieces from Rob Stanton at Robron. Look in the REAR supplier's section for Robron's address/phone. If it's really a '59 or '60, it will have a more upright steering hoop, and should have a 3/4 circle cast aluminum steering wheel. The early Darts didn't have a welded-on front bumper, nor did they have axle-mounted swing engine mounts. They also did not come with a Nassau panel attached to the steering hoop. The appropriate engines for a '59/'60 Dart might be Clinton A-400/A-490's or E-65's. Also, West Bend 510's, 645's or early 58o's and 700's. The only appropriate McCulloch's would be Mc-5's or Mc-10's. You might have seen Homelite K-82's or Power Products AH-58's (very early ones) or AH-82's. If it's an A Bone, the sky's the limit on engines. Hope this helps a little. Ted

Re: Wanted 1959 or 1960 rupp wide loop A Bone parts
1961 models were the K Junior and the Super K. Ted is correct, 1962 is when the A-Bone line appeared. The A-Bone's seat hoop is 3" taller. I have the dealer sales literature and parts lists for both. Post a few different views if you can.

Re: Wanted 1959 or 1960 rupp wide loop A Bone parts
Sure sounds like a very early Dart (NOT an A Bone). The steering wheel is almost certainly the early cast aluminum unit. Does it have a live rear axle (axle turns both rear wheels together)? Are the engine mounts welded to the frame/axle? You're free to use any color scheme that pleases you! Most early Darts were a medium metallic blue throughout. http://www.macbobaust.com has a vintage american kart section in it. In there is a couple photos of an early Super K Dart It looks to be about the right color. If your kart does not have the live axle, you'll be much happier running the early lower powered engines. Dual high powered engines on a dead axle kart are no fun at all, as the inside wheel lifts on turns, thus letting the engine on that side over-rev. Like Tom said, just because there are two mounts, that's no reason to run dual engines. The kart will behave better with a single motor, and you'll be much happier not having to tune and maintain two engines! A number of early karts came from the factory with dual mounts, but only one engine. Good luck! Ted
