You are lucky enough to have found an old Saetta V-11 kart engine. It was the first Italian engine to be imported to the US for kart use. You won't have any luck finding a recoil as none were made for this engine, they were intended for direct drive only. Your sprocket looks very worn and they use a spline drive I think. I have a Saetta V-12 which is later than yours and it uses the same goofy sprocket. Maybe some of the vintage karting forums in England could help you as they used this engine a lot over there. Also maybe Steve (MotoDelta) Fryer can help, he is on this and the VKA board on occasion.

Could always have new plain bore sprockets wire EDM'ed to put in the new spline.
