Harry,

Yes, I met w/ Steve in CA a week ago. He has some fine engine pieces. He also has Solt tooling. Solt (among a handful of others) was an aftermarketeer for engine/ driveline parts back in the day. One simple and nice upgrade are the aluminum pans that Steve has. Say hi for me. Steve's a great guy and very familiar w/ the history of the heady days of the sport.

i need to see some closer pictures if possible of the muffler assembly and the carb and the air filter area to determine if this engine is a Homelite in reality the bottom part on this engine definitly looks like a Tecumseh 2 stroke power products engine to me but i need to see if you can if its not that much a problem to take a picture of the ignition system under the flywheel

thanks

I don't believe that square shaped exhaust housing is correct for the engine. The exhaust port is wider than that box. The excess is partially covered with some shim stock type material.

I took some new pics this morning. I hope I'm not over-posting my welcome here. :?

Here's the ignition on the basket case engine.

The two engines have different blower fin designs plus the cooling fins on the heads are drastically different. The blower housing that belongs to the basket case engine, fits both.

Here's the blower housing.

You're correct... The engine isn't a Homelite... It's just a "HO".

Model: 20MCS

Model: 26LCS (Excellent display of a cut-away model)

Model: 5-30

The models listed above have the black blower housing with the large block letters like the single housing that I have. The listing for model #26LCS has a cut-away model that shows a flat-top cylinder head like my first engine.

I sure would like to get this figured out so I can look into ordering another shroud, a couple of recoil starters & a couple of rebuild kits.

Here are the part #'s off the intake manifolds & one of the flywheels.

These #'s are the most prominent form of any type of identification. There are a few small Alcoa logo's here & there with a small number nearby. That's about it.

Thanks.

Harry, you're going to have to locate a Homelite historian, not a kart buff. These engines precede karting, at least the one with straight flywheel fins does. Homelite only made (4) kart motors: the KL/KR-82; KL/KR-92, KL-95 and KL-100, and these were all reed valve engines. Yours are definitely Homelites, the fact that the piston forms the inner port transfer wall is enough to confirm this. The one with the finned head and curved flywheel fins is the later engine. The flywheel stamped Phelon is very like the flywheel on my XP1000, but your engine is earlier than my 1965 XP1000. Try Lindle Pogue:

He may be able to help you. He knows a lot about older Homelites, and has some old parts on hand. Good luck! Ted
