Carb question

I'm running a WB-820 with a Tillotson HL-334A, is there a bigger or better HL I can run? Thanks in advance.

V 12 with 2 Tillitson carbs is the most popular. They also made an inline manifold for twin carbs. There were other aftermarket manifolds made. With an 820 you can put carbs on the stuffer or even the other side of the block if you can fit them and get throttle linkage to work.
Look at the thousands of picutres on teh site for ideas nad alos buy some old karting mags or parts catalogs.

There are a number of aftermarket dual Tillotson HL manifolds running around out there. GEM made more than one to use dual Homelite or Go Power reeds. The best choice for performance is probably the GEM V-12 which usee proprietary reeds. The V-12 may be used with 2 HL carbs, or with the proper top plate, with one of the larger HR or Mikuni carbs. These come up on eBay from time to time. The V-12 base may be bought new from Vince Hughes. Find Vince at jackshaftjones@cox.net. He may have other W.B. parts as well. Terry Ives at (916) 725-6776 has V-12 reed cages, and GEM has reeds. Look on REAR's parts/resources page in the list on the left side of the home page. Ted

Hi, Ralph. The answer is, yes, you can run the newer larger HL's on the 820. It's a big engine and it'll happily take the fuel. The HL's you have now will be fine as well! If you're running alcohol, I would suggest talking to John at EC Distributing, (615)446-6807. He is a carb guru, and can supply many HL combinations to you, as well as help with throttle linkages. If you want a 34mm single, you might call Dave Bonbright at Engine Masters, 1 707-938-8122. He's a West Bend wizard. He's hard to get on the phone, but worth the multiple calls! I have waterjet cut adapter plates to put the 34mm HR or Mikuni onto the McCulloch top plates on the V-12's. The big Mac top seems to be more common than the HR top. The dual HL's run VERY well, too.
