This kart engine is an unknown animal to me, i have never seen one before, only magazine adds. This engine looks like it came on the market, as a kart engine in 1960, rated at 5.8 cu, with a $99.50 price tag. Anyone here ever run one of these engines, or remember seeing one on a kart?....Ed

Hi, Ed. supposedly a high revving engine, according to an early Karting Handbook multiple engine test. Strong as an ox, and I'd say VERY desirable as a vintage engine. I once saw an earlier S-100 run, and it wasn't as fast as a Mac, but faster than a 580 or a K-82 Homelite. Email me at nosnhojkart@yahoo.com, and I'll email you a pic of an early Swoopster with a pair of Poulans. I looked in the 1960 Karting Handbook, and they list only the S-100 at 3 HP. The 1961-62 Karting Handbook shows the S-200 developing 5.00 HP at 9000 RPM. Anyhow, outside of the Shreveport area, there weren't many of them! If you decide to sell it, give me a yell! Ted

Hello Ted,
Thanks for the reply, on the Poulan kart engine, but i do not own one. I just have always wondered if these were a very good engine in their day. Living in California all my life, i just never seen one in person, or have ever meet anyone who even talked about them. I thought maybe these were a popular engine for back east racers, but i guess not....Ed

Ed,
Years ago, I talked to Tom Medley and he told me he had the actual S200 that they tested in the Jan '61 Hot Rod. At that time he didn't want to sell it. Later, I met him at Quincy and asked if he still had the engine. I was too late he had sold it, to whom I don't know. You could ask Tom if you see him at Adams. John Wall who always goes to Quincy manages to find the wierdest and rarest stuff I've ever seen get a hold of him he may have a lead.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the tip on the 1961 Hot Rod article, on the different kart engines. Actually the engine test was in the Feb issue, i just happen to have all 12 issues at home, but never realized it had a dyno deal on kart engines, in it.

Frank you need to find a Poulan S-200, to go along with your Super 58 Power Products....Ed
