101MC Conversion

Post by Bob Towarnicki » Tue Aug 07, 2007 4:07 pm

I have a complaint to file with McCulloch Corporation. I am in the process of converting a NOS 101MC, putting a new tapered crank, plugging the compression release hole, etc. When I started to disassemble the engine I discovered three of six head bolts were sheared off from over torque. This engine was brand new! Sure glad I didn't try starting this engine without disassembly and reassembly. Getting those bolts out was a challenge but the mission was accomplished succesfully. More than once I have seen recommendations on this board to check everything on these engines. AMEN.

Does anyone have an opinion regarding the manifold? Should I use the sloping manifold on the 101MC or a straight manifold from an earlier model?

Thanks, Bob

Bob, I have a regular intake I will trade you. I need a sloper for my enduro kart so the carb clears the fuel tank.

Bill it would possibly be cheaper and a lot quicker to trade locally as i'm in Australia plus i only have the one sloper that i need for a future project.

Mc Bob,
Santa gave me the engine so I don't want to aggravate him. I'm hoping he has a few more down deep in his bag (even if they are factory seconds).

Bill,
I have the old style straight manifold as well. I am curious as to whether any performance difference is noticed, one versus the other? If not I plan to leave the sloper on the engine.
