Mac seal and bearing #s?

Post by Frank Payne » Tue May 13, 2008 10:55 pm

I searched for Rob's old post on Mac seal #s and can't find it. I need the seals for the early small Macs. 6, 7, 8. Also flywheel and pto bearings. Can anyone help? Thanks, Frank

Here is seal info that I copied down and looked up at the SKF website, look over carefully, as far as I know it is correct.

FYI - referring to the McCulloch IPLs on this website, the MC6, 7, and 8 use the same flywheel and pto seal part numbers as listed above for the MC91 series motors (might be most of the standard motors with Needle bearing ptos use these seals).

Thanks Jeff. Can I assume that the big macs all used 203 and 204 bearings? Frank

Frank, PTO bearings and seals used on the aircraft and 101 MCs are different. Mc-10 are same as 92/93. What's new?

Tom,

I'm working on John Mullen's Ala Kart. Trying to put the twin Mc6s together and hurting for parts. Where can you get the soft aluminum plugs for the rear transfer ports? hoping when finished it will pass Carl Buchanan's inspection! Frank

Frank-

I don't know if this is one of those deals where you need to order 1000 of them, but you might want to check out http://www.hubbardspring.com/ they list both the cupped plugs and regular welch plugs- which would also be a good thing to find out to be able to rebuild the small flatback carbs. If they only do quantity orders, you might be able to ask them to refer you to a company who might have a quantity of the plugs you need and can sell just a few to you.

Regarding the Mc6, you might be able to answer my question- obviously the stock square head gasket is hard to find- would you anneal the old one before reusing it, or just reuse as is?

Dean/Frank, I am pretty sure the welch plugs can be found at a NAPA Parts Store. I bought some or was going too for a motor re sleeve project that got shelved. Also if you google "can aluminum be annealed" there are answers and techniques. TL

Dean,
if you anneal it be careful not to warp it. I think there are still some out there yet, I haven't had to anneal one. Frank
