Is this a good deal?

Post by Adrian Labetti » Tue Oct 04, 2022 9:24 am

I was looking around on eBay and I stumbled across a trio of Mac mc90 series’s. There are 2 identical mc92s and a mc91. He’s asking 2850, plus 150 for shipping. Motors seem complete and in good condition, but is the price worth it or is it too much?

Way over priced for what are essentially 'core' motors.

Even if you can rebuild these engines yourself you will have a lot of work and possibly cost also ahead of you since the descriptions are kind of vague and the seller states that they need to be gone through.

Thanks, good to know. How much do you think it should be worth?

There is a lot of things to consider here. Sure you get Burco clutchs but are the drums-sprockets any good. What about the shoes, are they worn out and do you even want to run and work on oil clutches. Do the motors have any spark or compression ?

The motors again could be decent starting points but then again the internals could be junk. McCulloch carbs add no value either.

Have seen motors like these go for anywhere from $200 to $500 each at TBO. They are certainly not worth $1000.00 each like the auction asks.

Best bet is to not be in a hurry and go to a event near you and look around and talk to different people. Chances are there will probably be something for sale that you can talk to the owner face to face about and get complete details and descriptions.
