free roller bearings
Does anyone know who still makes 1" free roller axle set screw bearings" I see plenty of 1-1/4" ones but those are useless for our purpose. Thanks, Ted
Re: free roller bearings

Re: free roller bearings
Rob, I can't wade thru the Bearing Dist. catalog. I will call them. Bobby, I don't see any 1" free rollers in the Azusa catalog, only 1-1/4" bearings. Coyote doesn't have 1" free rollers, either. It may be that VXB has the U-lube-them axle bearings. I will call them. I have a bunch of standard stiff axle bearings in the shop, but no free rollers. I just wanted to check them out. I used the big bearings in the sidewinder days, but never the 1" axle free rollers. We used to lube the 1-1/4" ones with castor. It lasted a complete race weekend. Thanks. Ted

Heck, guys, we probably won't even build the Brise kart. These are just "prelims". Thanks. Ted

Ted,
Many karts used Sealmaster back in the day.

Holy frijoles, Dean! did you see the price on Amazon. They say Qty. 1, but they must mean 10. Anyhow, there is nothing special about the Sealmaster, they still have the friction causing seals. I was hoping for the bearings that have the lube hole so that you can add castor or regular oil instead of grease. I have 1 set screw grease-filled bearings here. I'm looking for less friction. Like I say, Pruit and I will most likely not go any further with the Brise kart, though it is ultra light and cool looking. Ted

Re: free roller bearings
Considering that these kart events are just "demonstrations", what real difference does some bearing drag make? It's not like there's any real reward for being in front at the end of what is essentially just a practice session with karts not even having to have a minimum weight or any kind of engine tech. In legitimate kart racing there were some actual rules and winning your class meant at least a little more than being out front in any vintage event.

Michael, Pruit and I are just having fun. We decided to build a featherweight kart just for the fun of it. If bearings cost a few dollars more, it's O.K. As a mechanical D.E., I'm doing an exercise. Ted
