What color of silver were these engines ? I have a couple to restore and would like to make them right — any help would be appreciated — THANKS

Any metallic silver will do but have seen then done up in a battle ship gray also.

A lot of the engines did come in different colors often requested by mfgs. if they were used in a industrail application then run on karts so red or yellow is a option.

Seen quite a few of them chromed in the old magazines even.

The two 700 five ports I just did for Charlie Craibe were done in a powder color called Trim Silver. Prismatic Powders makes it. Q3112Q INTERPON TRIM SILVER is their color name. It isn't perfect West Bend silver. I think maybe it's a tiny bit "bright", but the engines looked good. We didn't clear coat them.
Back when I was in a survey crew, after high school, Pop let me take a Hoffco Sythette bush saw to use. It had a red 580 on it. Darn good way to cut off a leg, too! Ted

Think like they did in the early 60's. Bare clean metal and a kid after school with a paint can putting not much more than a mist on anything. I've never seen 2 matching colors. Even the NOS engines I had are not even close.

Rob, Mac yellow was pretty consistent. The West Bend 610/820 color was also pretty consistent, though it was an awful color. I imagine Mac bought enough of the world's toughest paint that they got mostly a single color. Mac yellow DID change a bit over the years. We're still looking for a powder to match the W.B. champagne gold.
