In need of help idenifying 2 different karts.

Post by William Grose » Wed Oct 16, 2019 6:47 pm

I'm a noob to the kart scene and not a child, I'm getting out of dirt bikes to change to 4 wheels which will help my M.S. I was sent only 2 pictures so any help at all from any part you see will be very helpful. Thanks in advance. Sorry I only received 2 pictures. The person mentioned Sidewinder, but from what I've been reading I don't think so but I'm new to this. Thanks, William.

Hi William & welcome.
First kart is a modern big tire fun kart. Bottom kart looks like a Percieval Hellcat or Wildcat from early 60's.
Are you looking to restore a kart?

Hello and thanks for your reply with info. I was just wondering if this is something I should get since I love tinkering with small engines and am looking into changing hobbies. I'll have more info as I'm going to see them in person Saturday. Would this be a good purchase as I'm told they both run and it's a cheap package deal (I think) from others I've seen. Although I wouldn't want to say how much at this time, maybe you can tell me what would be a reasonable price for both running? Again I thank you for your help and time, William.

Can't give even a guess from that picture. Look it over well for cracks, extra welds etc...

Unless you have kids, pass on kart No. one. As Rob says, the second is a Percival from '59 or '60 Solid, strong and heavy. Not a great competition kart in its day, but a well built machine. In order to run at vintage events, you would need a two cycle engine such as a West Bend 580 or 700, or another period correct two cycle. The engine on kart two appears to be a four cycle. Correct for a yard kart or tiller, but not a vintage race kart. Ted
